Good to know / FAQ

Everything you need to know before choosing

Yes. The Coway Airmega 50 is a compact, quiet air purifier designed for bedrooms, nurseries, home offices and other personal spaces. It measures just 17 × 17 × 32 cm and weighs 1.6 kg, so it can sit neatly beside a bed, on a desk or in a small living area. Sleep Mode runs from 18.4 dB, while the display and night light can be switched off if you prefer a darker room.

The Airmega 50 has an official room coverage of up to 31 m² and a CADR of 120.1 m³/h. For a typical UK bedroom or home office of around 25 m² with a 2.4 m ceiling, this is approximately two air changes per hour. For quicker particle reduction during high-pollen periods, choose a smaller room or move up to a higher-CADR Airmega model.

CADR stands for Clean Air Delivery Rate. It indicates how much filtered air an air purifier can deliver in one hour, so it is one of the most useful figures for comparing cleaning performance. The Airmega 50 has a CADR of 120.1 m³/h. Room-coverage claims can be calculated differently by each manufacturer, so compare CADR alongside your room size and ceiling height rather than relying on the stated area alone.

In Sleep Mode, the Airmega 50 operates from 18.4 dB, making it suitable for bedrooms, nurseries and quiet workspaces. You can also turn off the air-quality display and night light to reduce visual disturbance. Noise increases as the fan speed rises, so Auto Mode or Sleep Mode is recommended overnight if you are sensitive to sound.

The Airmega 50 can help reduce airborne particles commonly associated with hay fever and allergies, including pollen, household dust and pet dander. It is certified by ECARF Germany, whose Seal of Quality is awarded only when a product can demonstrate that it meets defined allergy-friendly criteria through audits or studies. This provides an additional, independent level of assurance compared with products that have not obtained this certification. For best results during pollen season, run it continuously in a correctly sized room and keep windows closed when outdoor pollen levels are high. It is not a medical treatment and cannot guarantee symptom relief.

Its three-stage system is designed to capture larger dust and hair, fine airborne particles such as pollen and pet dander, and certain everyday odours. Air is drawn in from around the cylindrical body for 360° purification. Actual performance depends on room size, fan speed, ventilation and the amount of pollution present.

The Airmega 50 uses a pre-filter, a HyperCaptive filter and a deodorisation filter. The pre-filter captures larger particles first, while the main filter targets much smaller airborne particles. The deodorisation layer helps reduce certain everyday smells and gaseous pollutants. Using genuine Coway replacement filters helps maintain the intended airflow, fit and purification performance.

The deodorisation filter can help reduce certain everyday odours and VOCs, but no small air purifier can remove every smell or gas. Strong or continuous sources—such as cooking fumes, smoke, damp or cleaning chemicals—should be addressed with ventilation and source removal as well. The Airmega 50 is best used as part of normal indoor-air management rather than as a replacement for ventilation.

The built-in particle sensor monitors the surrounding air quality. In Auto Mode, the Airmega 50 adjusts its fan speed automatically according to the detected particle level, so you do not need to keep changing the settings manually. This provides stronger airflow when needed and quieter operation when the air is cleaner.

No. The Airmega 50 is designed to deliver effective, straightforward air purification without an app. Its built-in air-quality sensor continuously monitors the surrounding air, while Auto Mode adjusts the fan speed automatically according to the detected particle level. For the best day-to-day results, you can simply leave it running in Auto Mode. The intuitive control panel makes the main functions easy to use, with no phone pairing, app compatibility, software updates or connection errors to manage.

The real-time air-quality indicator uses four colours: BLUE, GREEN, YELLOW and RED to show the detected particle level at a glance. Blue represents the cleanest detected condition, while red indicates the highest detected particle level. The sensor reflects the air around the unit, so place it where airflow is not blocked by curtains, furniture or a wall.

The 3-in-1 filter is designed to last up to eight months under typical use. A filter indicator lets you know when replacement is due. Actual life can be shorter or longer in homes with pets, smoking, heavy dust or daily running hours. Check the filter regularly and replace it when indicated to maintain airflow and performance.

Do not wash the main filter. Moisture can damage the filter media and reduce performance. Clean only the parts identified as washable in the product manual, and make sure they are completely dry before reinstalling them. Replace the main filter with the genuine Airmega 50 replacement filter when the indicator appears.

Yes. Air purifiers work best when they run consistently, because airborne particles can return through movement, open doors and windows, pets and everyday activity. Use Sleep Mode overnight for quieter operation, or Auto Mode for automatic fan adjustment throughout the day. Make sure the air inlet and outlet remain unobstructed.

Yes. It includes 1-, 2-, 4- and 8-hour timer settings, a calming night light, adjustable display lighting and a child-safe control lock. These features make it practical for bedrooms, nurseries, desks and study spaces. The night light and display can be switched off when you want a completely dark room.
